Our Trustees

Remark! Community Trustees meet regularly to discuss, decide and review our strategies and policies and receive reports and updates from the senior manager. Our trustees work for Remark! Community voluntarily to make sure we’re doing all we can achieve our objectives of improving access and equality for Deaf people.

Trustee Pembe

Pembe Alp - Chair

Pembe took the role as Chair in 2016 after being trustee for two years following her involvement working for the Deaf  Community since 2012 as a support worker within the Remark! Living team. Within this role she provides support to Deaf people who may be elderly or have a disability, or additional needs to live independently and has helped the team soar to its current success.  Pembe contributes her own experiences in the Deaf Community to help direct decisions and strategies at Community Board meetings.

Maria Goddard - Secretary

Maria was volunteering in the local community and came into contact with Deaf BSL users and wanted to communicate with them so started learning BSL. Maria became very involved with Remark community working in a lunch club with mature members as a volunteer.

Through her experience, teaching P.E, covering all ages,  youth work and volunteering in the community over the years, she was  able to offer an exercise and walking programme which is proving to be very successful, also creating such fun and satisfaction for both members and Maria.
From that, her interests spread to other projects and was asked to be a trustee of Remark Community because of  her involvement in the charity. She continues to learn and to give her time and experience.

Corrina is actively involved in the Deaf community working as a Communication Support Worker and uses a background in marketing to seek opportunities to raise the profile of Remark! Community.
