A Very “Hands-On” Workshop at Harrow!

Harrow Lunch club had the pleasure of welcoming Peter Brown this week, who delivered a fantastic workshop about Deafblind awareness, guiding skills and techniques in “hands-on” signing.

We had an incredible turnout, with 25 members joining us - many who have been at Harrow since it’s opening, plus a few lovely new faces!

Everyone was hugely engaged in Peter’s talk - including an introduction to different variations of blindness, a discussion of equipment and accessibility for Deafblind people, and a demonstration with a willing member of how to modify sign language for those with limited vision. We ended with a partner practise of the Deafblind manual alphabet, and a brief Q&A.

Our members were then treated to a homecooked meal of mozzarella and spinach mac & cheese bake and a side salad, with a vanilla cheesecake dessert.

Everyone left with minds and bellies very much full  We can’t wait to welcome Peter Brown back to other Lunch Clubs in the future to share his knowledge!
