At Remark! Community, our trustees play an essential role in guiding our work, ensuring we fulfill our mission, and upholding our values. Our trustees are volunteers from diverse professional backgrounds, bringing their experience and passion to support the Deaf community.

Chair - Herbert Klein

Herbert Klein - Chair of Remark! Community Herbert is a renowned expert in Deaf mental health, having recently received a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship. With over 32 years of service in the NHS, he has held various positions in Adult and Children’s Deaf Mental Health Services. He currently advises on multiple mental health projects and leads the British Society for Mental Health and Deaf (BSMHD). Herbert also volunteers internationally, supporting Deaf mental health awareness programs.

What Does a Trustee Do?

Trustees play a pivotal role in any charity, and at Remark! Community, our trustees ensure we adhere to our mission, manage our resources effectively, and comply with UK charity law. The core responsibilities of a trustee include:

 

Providing leadership and strategic direction:
Trustees work with senior staff to set the charity’s vision, values, and long-term strategy.

Ensuring financial stability:
Trustees are responsible for making sure funds are used responsibly and ensuring the charity's long-term sustainability.

 
 

Upholding legal compliance:
Trustees make sure the charity complies with UK law, including health and safety regulations, data protection, and the Charities Act.

 

Risk management:
Trustees assess potential risks and put measures in place to protect the charity and its work.

 

By volunteering their time and expertise, trustees help ensure Remark! Community continues to thrive and serve the Deaf community in the best way possible.
