Camden at The National Maritime Museum!

With Camden Lunch Club we visited The National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. We had a huge group turn up; it was great to see so many people there. After a pub lunch we headed to the Museum. We were treated to a fascinating private tour through the highlights of the museum, with time afterwards to explore for ourselves.

A fascinating private tour.

The tour included information on Captain cook and has Travels to Australia. This included a hilarious story linked to two paintings: one of a dingo and the other of a kangaroo. It turns out that the painter had never seen either of these animals and in fact never even visited Australia! All he had to go on was a description of the two animals and needless to say they were not incredibly accurate.

Other highlights of the tour included objects of Sir Francis Drake, and the coat Admiral Nelson was wearing when he died.

The group were really into the topic and asked loads of great questions. The fantastic day was rounded off with afternoon tea in the museum café. If you’re interested in trips like this, come join us every Friday at Camden Lunch Club!
